Testimonials
“Penny is a truly fantastic coach and I would recommend her without reservation.
I first met Penny at a pivotal point in my career, when I was acclimating to life as a Partner as well as moving to a new firm. Without doubt Penny has been an amazing support in helping me to successfully transition. She is highly intuitive, knowledgeable and has always ensured that the sessions were tailored to my specific needs. She is warm, incredibly encouraging and always supportive.
The sessions have given me a new burst of confidence and motivation. If you’re looking for someone to help you move in a positive direction, you will find no one better. ”
“When I first started coaching sessions with Penny I was honestly a little sceptical about the value of coaching. Penny’s warm and supportive style, coupled with incisive questions and practical tools for my particular management challenges, has made me a complete convert to the effectiveness of her coaching.
Penny has skilfully led me to answer my own questions and solve my own problems in a way I could never have done alone. She takes great care to know you as an individual and to understand the specific circumstances of your situation, so I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone looking to improve the more intangible aspects of successful leadership.”
“Working with Penny has transformed my outlook towards my work and has meant I have noticeably grown in confidence. I have come away from each session with a series of actions to address the issues that were worrying me. Putting what we talked about in each session into practice has been a huge help in resolving the challenges I was facing. Taking time out to think more strategically and focus on yourself is a must. Penny makes you feel at ease and works with you to unlock answers to your questions and achieve your goals. Her coaching has made such a difference to me personally and professionally over the past six months and I would highly recommend it.”

What is coaching?
My coaching comprises a one-to-one collaborative and equal partnership. I listen, question, support and challenge to help you reach your professional and personal objectives. Our coaching sessions will help you clarify your goals, break down limiting assumptions and foster your self-belief and confidence. We will explore options, devise actions and nurture progression, excellence and change.
I do NOT tell you what to do or lead or control you. I am convinced that all individuals hold the answers to their own problems and through the powerful process of coaching and deep thinking they are the best people to identify and implement these solutions.
Coaching is not mentoring though of course my professional background and understanding influence my questioning. At appropriate times I may share some of my business experiences to see if they shed light on your issues but the decision as to whether they contain anything relevant or helpful rests solely with you.
The great thing about coaching is that it gives super-busy people time to sit back and strategise about their career – next steps – a promotion or issues at work or indeed in your wider approach to work and your life. Coaching provides the space and time to think and improve the quality of your thinking and as a result enables you to become the best you can be.

About Me
“MY PROMISE
I promise you complete confidentiality and professionalism. My aim is not to judge or to measure you but to listen to you and to support and encourage you. You can trust me. I will be reliable and honest and will apply the benefit of my 30 years’ experience to help you address the change you are seeking and become the best you can be. ”
Although my coaching will focus entirely on you and your needs, I think it helpful for you to know a little about me.
I bring 30 years’ experience of working as a woman at a top level in business to my executive coaching practice. After a successful 17 year career as a commercial property development solicitor where I was often the only woman round the table (first at the City law firm Macfarlanes (where, in 1994, I was appointed their first female partner with children) and then at Mills & Reeve in Cambridge where I developed my own business within their overarching umbrella) I changed direction in my career.
It was fascinating to move from a heavily male working environment into an institution run by women for women. I took up the role of Development Director at the all-female Newnham College, University of Cambridge, responsible for alumnae relations and fundraising and raised £32 million over my 11 very happy years there.
I am passionate about bringing out the best in people and helping them fulfil their potential and am particularly interested in the power of positive psychology, confidence, self-awareness and the effect of optimism on the ability of the individual to accomplish their goals and ambitions. I care deeply about addressing lack of confidence and the imposter syndrome.
I love networking, creating business relationships and developing opportunities across diverse fields.
Whilst at Newnham I spearheaded TEDxNewnham which trended number 3 on Twitter and led the team which designed the broad and varied programme under the title Embracing Challenge. I personally mentored and coached a number of the speakers advising them on their presentation skills and talk content. I have always loved public speaking and regularly wrote speeches for delivery by the Principals of the College and personally gave presentations to audiences of 150+.
Part of my role at Newnham was to brief and support speakers on the content of their talks: these included eminent academics, politicians, actors and celebrities.
I was profiled in the book: The Meaning of Success: Insights from Women in Cambridge.
I am deeply committed to education and am a Trustee of the national social mobility educational charity Achievement for All and a member of their Audit and Finance Committee
I have two daughters (aged 30 and 27) and my husband and I divide our time between an old house on the North Norfolk Coast and Cambridge/London. I love sailing, beach walking with our female Jack Russell (Professor Sprout – named after Miriam Margolyes) and Kenco the Springer Spaniel, play the piano and teach rock ‘n’ roll.
